What We Do
BALANCE for Blind Adults is a non-profit agency that offers training and resources for blind and vision impaired adults in Daily Living Skills, Community Access, Orientation & Mobility, Healthy Living, and Access Technology. We also offer a comprehensive Employment Services program to assist with job preparation, career development, and workplace accommodation.
Our creative learning environment is rooted in our history and philosophy of community-based practice. As an agency committed to the dignity, inclusion and self-determination of people who are blind or vision impaired, we value and actively promote collaboration on what is learned, and how.
BALANCE programs are practical, relevant, and professional. Most of all, they are current. Our strong community focus keeps our services grounded and our spirit open to change.
We provide one-on-one training, group classes, volunteer services, and on-the-job support. We also work with employers to build awareness of adaptive technologies and of workplace cultures inclusive of people with vision loss.
At BALANCE, we promote adult learning principles, and support:
- the development of skills to make informed lifestyle choices
- experiential learning
- participation in decision-making processes
- individual learning styles
- access to information and open lines of communication
- access to services based on need, irrespective of gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, intelligence or income
Our community outreach provides online resources, print materials, and educational initiatives to vision impaired people, their families, service providers, educators and employers. Our comprehensive website reaches blind and vision impaired people nationwide.
