First Aid Kit
Every household should have a first aid kit. You might also want to take a C.P.R. course through St. John Ambulance or The Canadian Red Cross.
Use a clean dry container for your first aid kit and customize the contents for your own needs. Be sure you know how to use the contents, and check them periodically. General items to include are:
- a first aid manual
- bandaids of various sizes
- sterile dressings to clean, dry and cover wounds
- a roll of adhesive tape
- hand cleanser and towelettes
- alcohol or antiseptic swabs
- 2 triangular bandages
- safety pins
- round-ended scissors
- tweezers (to remove splinters)
- gloves (nitrile is better than latex because it is puncture resistant and allergy free)
- an emergency foil blanket
- eyewash solution or bottled, distilled or sterile water
- pen and paper to make notes
- rolls of gauze bandage
- tensor elastic bandage
- a waterproof bag to dispose of used first aid materials
- resuscitation barrier device with a one-way valve
- any other materials that may assist in an emergency
