BALANCED Living
Keeping a balanced lifestyle can be a challenge, especially if you’re living with vision loss. It can be tough to stay physically active and have good access to recreation, health advice, and community activities.
Our BALANCED Living initiative offers a fresh start to keeping healthy and active. On these pages, you’ll find ideas on activities of daily living, travelling in the community, adjusting to vision loss, physical fitness, eating well, and recreation activities. At BALANCE, we’re committed to helping blind and vision impaired adults get fit, energized, and connected. Here’s what we offer:
Instructional programs and services
All of our BALANCE programs include a Healthy Living component. Find out how to learn a new sport, put exercise into your walking routes, add enjoyment and nutrition to your meals, surf the web for health advice, and more. Our instructors are ready to help.
Outreach and special events
Healthy Living is part of BALANCE activities. On St. Patrick’s Day, everyone at BALANCE joined the Achilles 5k Run and Walk. At our recent Firefighters’ Challenge, we learned about keeping safe. At our A.G.M., speakers from the Trailblazers Tandem Cycling Club, the Safari Walking Group, and the Blind Sailing Association inspired us about adaptive sports. And at our Open House, we learned about yoga, curling, skiing, and fitness classes. More presentations and outreach are on the way.
