EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

BALANCE’s Capacity Building partnership with the Canadian Paraplegic Association (CPA) reached its official completion on March 31, 2011.  We thank Diana Hutton, Employment Accommodations Specialist, for her dedicated work with this very successful project.

 The partnership between BALANCE and CPA began two-years ago and its purpose has been to build CPA’s capacity to work knowledgeably and effectively with job seekers who are blind or vision impaired.  Initially CPA specialized in offering employment services to those with physical disabilities but have diversified and expanded their services to other disabilities.

In building capacity at CPA, BALANCE provided training, coaching and consultation to CPA’s staff on various aspects of blindness as it relates to employment counselling, job development and accommodations in the workplace.  Additionally, BALANCE also assisted CPA in acquiring a Braille Embosser, Braille Display, CCTV, Zoom text, and JAWS to make CPA’s Employment Resource Centre completely accessible to blind or vision impaired job seekers.
