Volunteers
Volunteering…it’s great for everyone!
Volunteering at BALANCE for Blind Adults is an opportunity to share your unique talents and qualities with others. It’s a chance to meet new people, develop new ideas, and be part of a growing field of work.
Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to your community. It’s also a great opportunity to learn from blind or vision impaired adults about living with a disability—something we might face in our own lives or that could happen to someone we love.
Volunteers are an integral part of BALANCE programs and help us enable people who are blind or vision impaired to be independent, participating members of their community.
BALANCE for Blind Adults needs people to:
- read mail or read onto tape
- assist with household organization
- be guides for shopping and recreational outings
- participate in physical activities like walking, biking or swimming
- help in the BALANCE office
- help at an event
- assist with language interpretation
- join the BALANCE board of directors or be part of a BALANCE committee
Becoming a Volunteer
BALANCE needs dependable, flexible people who can commit 2–3 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months. To ensure a safe environment for everyone participating in our programs and activities, we also ask that you provide a police reference check.
Please check our current openings for volunteers. To apply for a position, click any APPLY link. Please complete and submit the online application form. Once your application has been reviewed, the Volunteer Coordinator will contact you.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for BALANCE for Blind Adults!
“Bravo and thank heaven for volunteers. I was overwhelmed with simple tasks like reading mail and clothes shopping. BALANCE found the right volunteer and suddenly my life opened to the joys and interests I had known as a sighted person. I still reach out to friends or family but sometimes I need my independence. A volunteer makes that possible.”
