This workshop is for all levels but will focus on the fundamentals of breath, resonance, speech and freeing your unique voice. And, we’ll have fun!

This weekly workshop will run Wednesdays from 1-2pm, starting May 19th  until June 16th. This class is currently full; please call BALANCE for information on additional dates.

7:00 pm: Stay Safe! A Comprehensive Violence Prevention Program for Blind and Partially Sighted Adults

June 9, 2021

What images or concepts come to mind when you think of self-defense? Perhaps Mixed Martial Arts? Kicking and punching? Do you associate it with a particular experience? Or perhaps it conjures feelings of fear, empowerment or apprehension? For many of us, self-defense is not a part of everyday life, and is a concept or experience that can be shrouded in misconceptions.

BALANCE is excited to partner with self-defense instructor and violence prevention specialist Alexis Fabricius in a 5-part course that will aim to shed light on the many misconceptions we may hold (and not even know it!). This course will cover some of the basics of self-defense, but will include additional skills like verbal de-escalation and practicing evaluative techniques in threatening scenarios, while also exploring topics such as violence against the blind and partially sighted, challenging vulnerability and responding to disablism/ableism.

This course will encourage honest discussions about personal safety and violence, in a safe space that is inclusive and open to all.  Dates: Wednesday, June 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7 from 7-8:30pm.

7:00 pm: The Listening Stage Series Presents "May I Take Your Arm?"

June 22, 2021

"May I take your arm?" by co-creators Alex Bulmer, Anna Camilleri, Tristan R. Whiston and Katie Yealland, and creative enabler & audio describer Becky Gold and website designer Wy Joung Kou.A Theatre Passe Muraille and Red Dress Productions Co-Production with the support of Common Boots Theatre.

Online and by mail access to "May I take your arm?" is free. Listen to the audio flyer for "May I take your arm?" at the following link: https://soundcloud.com/user-171262644-350053924/mitya-audio-flyer.

Blind artist Alex Bulmer takes the arm of people in her new neighbourhood. Together, they walk, listen, and share life stories — an architecture of place emerges. Experience their journeys through these multi-sensory moving-portraits that consider the past, illuminate the present, and evoke possible futures.

Originally created in 2018 as a live, interactive, performance installation, this iteration of "May I Take your arm?" has been re-imagined into a 7-part multidisciplinary follow-at-home experience. A purpose built website will act as a navigation map for audiences to experience the work in their own homes, in their own time and pace.

BALANCE will co-host this event on June 22 at 7 PM: Join us to stream new "May I take your arm?" audio elements followed by a talk around with the artists at 8 PM.

The Listening Stage streaming events are free, however, pre-registration is required. Click here to register for the event or please contact BALANCE at (416) 236-1796.

7:00 pm: Stay Safe! A Comprehensive Violence Prevention Program for Blind and Partially Sighted Adults

7:00 pm: Stay Safe! A Comprehensive Violence Prevention Program for Blind and Partially Sighted Adults

June 30, 2021
