Social Media & Digital Content (Volunteer)

Commitment

Approx. 5 hours per week. Ideally a 1-year commitment

Organization Description

BALANCE is a lively non-profit organization that provides customized training and support to facilitate optimal independence and community engagement for persons who are blind or living with sight loss and who often have complex needs in the Toronto area. Our online reach through virtual groups and events, and through social media, is local, national and international.

Role Description

Reporting to the Development Officer, the Social Media & Digital Content Volunteer will provide research, planning, design, and implementation of the BALANCE social media platforms. This includes fielding emails from partner organizations, designing media content, and crafting text communication that is branded, appropriate, and engaging.

Duties

  • Understand BALANCE’s mission and goals, and ensuring that the public presence of the organization is one that aligns with its mission and values.
  • Generate, edit, schedule, publish, and share content on all BALANCE social media platforms that is deemed important by BALANCE management, using graphics, fonts and logos approved by BALANCE Executive Director.
  • Maintain a social media presence by posting at regular intervals, reacting or replying to comments and messages in a timely manner, re-posting/re-tweeting relevant content, and forwarding important communications to BALANCE staff
  • Suggest and implement new ideas, features, or campaigns to increase online engagement/website traffic
  • Consider timeliness, inclusivity, representation, and diversity in content

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube)
  • Familiarity with Canva or other digital design software (or a willingness to learn)
  • Previous design experience an asset
  • Experience in creating and editing video content an asset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively from a virtual workspace
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong desire to give back through volunteering your time
