Grid view
Activities appear in a calendar layout by date. Open an event item to view more information and the registration link. If you use JAWS or NVDA, press Enter or use the right-click menu to access those details.
List view
Activities appear in a list, with the title, date, time, and description shown together. Because List view shows one date at a time, check the description to see whether an activity is a single event or part of a series or longer program.
Month

April 29, 2024Build your strength and embrace the joy of movement! BALANCE is pleased to once again partner with VIBE Arts to provide our in-demand Musical Theatre Movement Workshop.
Join us for 60 minutes of toe-tapping, moving, and grooving in a dance-based fitness class! We will work every major muscle group and allow for modifications for all levels and abilities. Classic tunes with a musical theatre theme will bring you and your muscles back in time as we show tune it up together!
The 10-week movement workshop will run Monday afternoons from 1:30 pm-2:30 pm, starting March 18th until June 10th (with no classes on following Mondays: Easter Monday, April 1st, April 22nd and Victoria Day long weekend on May 20th) at West Neighbourhood House located at 248 Ossington Avenue (Ossington & Dundas). April 30, 2024This program offers a 10-week professionally facilitated group counseling opportunity for adults with visual disabilities. Together, participants will explore various aspects of living with partial sight or blindness, delve into identity formation amidst visual challenges, assess support networks from friends and family, navigate the process of grief and letting go, manage feelings of stress and overwhelm, and celebrate personal achievements. Lisa Derencinovic, MSW, a professional counsellor with lived experience of blindness, leads the group. Lisa has provided therapeutic counseling at BALANCE for the past 7 years.

This interactive, case-based presentation will explore low vision assessment, specifically:
- The role of the low vision assessment (LVA) in the continuum of eye health care and low vision/blindness rehabilitation
- Components of low vision rehabilitation assessment
- Case scenarios that explore applying LVA results to:
- Connect visual function with client-identified concerns
- Inform education to clients/families
- Shape a rehabilitation plan and identify potential low vision aids/strategies
- Questions to reflect on your connection to low vision/blindness rehabilitation

May 1, 2024The class will safely focus on the muscle groups that encourage mobility and support daily living to help promote physical independence. Balance, flexibility and endurance will be incorporated into many of the exercises inherently.
