BALANCE’s Pre-employment Program, funded by United Way Greater Toronto, still has limited space available for our 5-week virtual skills training workshop in January, and we are now beginning to accept intakes for our April workshop.

This virtual program, which will take place over Zoom, will present topics such as using assistive technology in the workplace, networking, how to self-advocate, how you can overcome common job barriers, and much more! Following completion of the Zoom workshop, BALANCE will also provide you with ongoing support as you navigate Toronto-based employment service providers and employment opportunities, ensuring your unique needs are accommodated.

All adults with a visual disability who are eligible to work in Canada, speak English, and are seeking employment, are able to participate in this program (subject to an intake interview). This workshop will help you explore variety of hand-building techniques and create your own masterpieces. The sessions will include variations on surface decorating and glazing techniques. In addition, this will give you a chance to either learn as a beginner or build on previous experience in forming pieces with pinch pots, coils, and slabs. At the end, you will get to make functional objects such as bowls as well as sculptural pieces like wind chimes and more.

This group is a year-round, professionally facilitated group counselling for adults who are blind or living with vision loss. Registration opens 3 times/year only. Together, the group addresses life changes and challenges specifically for blind people, in a safe and supportive group experience. Our group is facilitated by Lisa Derencinovic, MSW, with lived experience of blindness, and it is currently being offered virtually through Zoom.

The class will safely focus on the muscle groups that encourage mobility and support daily living to help promote physical independence. For strengthening, the instructor will monitor the participants and will slowly increase resistance and repetitions as they make progress. Balance, flexibility and endurance will be incorporated into many of the exercises inherently.

Join us for 60 minutes of toe-tapping, moving and grooving in a dance-based fitness class! We will work every major muscle group and allow for modifications for all levels and abilities. Classic tunes with a musical theatre theme will bring you and your muscles back in time as we show tune it up together!

This group is a year-round, professionally facilitated group counselling for adults who are blind or living with vision loss. Registration opens 3 times/year only. Together, the group addresses life changes and challenges specifically for blind people, in a safe and supportive group experience. Our group is facilitated by Lisa Derencinovic, MSW, with lived experience of blindness, and it is currently being offered virtually through Zoom.

The class will safely focus on the muscle groups that encourage mobility and support daily living to help promote physical independence. For strengthening, the instructor will monitor the participants and will slowly increase resistance and repetitions as they make progress. Balance, flexibility and endurance will be incorporated into many of the exercises inherently.
