About BALANCE for Blind Adults
Practical skills, connection, and innovation for people with vision loss
BALANCE for Blind Adults helps people who are blind or partially sighted build the skills, confidence, and connections needed to navigate life with vision loss on their own terms.
Practical skills for everyday life are at the core of BALANCE programs, helping people navigate daily life and real-world environments with greater independence. This includes training in orientation and mobility, adaptive daily living skills, and assistive technology that supports access to information, navigation, and engagement with the world.
Programs also create opportunities for connection and shared experience, building community, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
As new tools and technologies emerge, some are opening doors that were once out of reach. BALANCE works with people to apply them in everyday life, translating innovation into greater independence and opportunity.
Through its work in the community, BALANCE identifies emerging needs and gaps, and develops programs and initiatives in response.
For more than 40 years, BALANCE has supported adults in the Greater Toronto Area and now delivers virtual services across Ontario. Instructors, specialists, and professionals with deep expertise in vision loss work alongside staff with lived experience to shape programs grounded in the realities people face every day.
