Assistive Technology Workshops
BALANCE for Blind Adults offers assistive technology workshops throughout the year for people who are blind or partially sighted. These sessions are shaped by lived experience of vision loss, alongside ongoing, hands-on work with everyday and emerging technologies, including wearables and advances in AI.
Workshops are offered in different formats depending on the topic. Virtual Lunch & Learns are open to participants across Ontario and focus on specific technologies, features, or platforms. In-person sessions, offered in the Greater Toronto Area, provide hands-on opportunities to try technology, compare options, and get practical guidance based on your own needs.
Sessions may explore everything from built-in accessibility features and screen magnification to smart glasses and AI-enabled technology — with a focus on how these tools can support reading, accessing information, navigating environments, and engaging more fully in everyday life.
These workshops are offered on an ad hoc basis, reflecting the pace of change in accessibility and technology. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, sessions are developed in response to new tools, real-world questions, and what people are encountering in their daily lives.
Whether you are getting started, building confidence, or trying to understand what new technology could mean for you, these sessions are designed to help you make informed decisions based on real experience — not just features or claims.
