Organizational Training
BALANCE offers training that helps organizations better understand vision loss and create more accessible and inclusive environments for employees, clients, and the public.
Our sessions help teams build awareness, confidence, and practical strategies for supporting people who are blind or partially sighted. Training can be adapted to a variety of settings, including service and support agencies, schools, nursing homes and care settings, community organizations, and workplaces.
BALANCE currently offers Insight Training, an experiential session designed to help participants better understand the lived experience of vision loss. We also welcome conversations with organizations interested in training tailored to their specific environment or sector.
Insight Training
Insight Training is BALANCE’s experiential vision loss training program for organizations.
Through guided activities, demonstrations, and discussion, participants experience firsthand some of the challenges vision loss can present in everyday environments and interactions. The session focuses on building awareness, confidence, and practical strategies for offering assistance and creating more accessible interactions.
Sessions may include:
- experiential activities using simulation goggles
- demonstrations of sighted guide techniques
- discussion with instructors and individuals with lived experience of vision loss
- practical strategies for interacting respectfully and offering assistance
Sessions are led by BALANCE instructors and may include participation from individuals with lived experience of vision loss, providing both professional instruction and real-world perspective.
Session Format
Insight Training sessions are typically delivered in 60–90 minute formats, depending on the needs of the organization and the size of the group.
Training can be delivered in person within Toronto or virtually for organizations outside the GTA or those preferring remote sessions.
