Zoom 1:00 pm: From Frustration to Funny: Writing Satire and Humour – Feeling frustrated, angry or amused by how dysfunctional society can be here in 2026? A satire and humour writing workshop is a fantastic way to channel those feelings into hilarity, community, and catharsis. The workshop is led by Sophie Kohn, an award-winning writer and longtime CBC Radio head writer whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, McSweeney’s, Reader’s Digest, and The Globe and Mail. She currently teaches satire and humour writing for Second City and brings a sharp, compassionate, and inclusive approach to comedy. In this class, you'll learn to write short satirical articles in the style of The Onion, McSweeney's, and The Beaverton. Whether you want to skewer the government, call out ableism, rant about people who don’t pick up after their dogs, take on Christmas music, or the anti-aging industry, this workshop will give you the tools to do it well. You’ll leave with a strong understanding of what makes satire work, how to generate compelling story ideas, and how to turn them into pieces that make people laugh—while also nudging them to see the world a little differently. Zoom 6:00 pm: Balanced Bodies: Inclusive Virtual Pilates – Ready to move, breathe, and feel amazing in your own body? Join us for a beginner-friendly mat Pilates series — no experience required! Using gentle bodyweight exercises on the floor or seated, you’ll improve balance, mobility, core strength, and body awareness, all while having fun. Across 8 weeks, you’ll learn Pilates basics like breath, alignment, and intentional movement. Each class builds gradually, helping you move with more ease, confidence, and strength in everyday life. By the end, you may even notice your posture improving, your core getting stronger, and your breath syncing beautifully with movement. Zoom 11:30 am: "Imagine That!": An Improv Session With Chris James (Winter Session) – BALANCE is excited to offer another Winter session opening of “Imagine That!”, a four-week improv workshop led by acclaimed actor, educator, and self-defense instructor Chris James. Chris James is a professional actor and educator with over 20 years of experience in theatre, television, film, and voice performance. Trained through The Second City’s IFA track, he brings a unique blend of artistry and teaching expertise to every workshop. With a background in movement, dance, and stage combat, Chris helps participants connect body, voice, and imagination in dynamic ways. His workshops are known for being both playful and practical—building confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills that extend far beyond the stage. March 6, 2026(3 events) 8:30 am: Walk with a Doc – Join us for an Indoor Mall Walk with a Kinesiologist! BALANCE for Blind Adults is happy to partner with the West Toronto Ontario Health Team and Communiticare Health for an upcoming “Walk with a Doc” on March 6th. Come join us for an indoor walking program at Dufferin Mall from 8:30 am – 10:00am. This is a low-impact, full-body exercise that is designed for all fitness levels and for you to connect with members of the community. This walking program has been running for 10+ years and is open to all. Come prepared for an early walk and an informal session to chat with a kinesiologist and learn about programs at Communiticare Health. Assistive supports will be available from BALANCE for Blind Adults staff for this walk.

She currently teaches satire and humour writing for Second City and brings a sharp, compassionate, and inclusive approach to comedy. In this class, you'll learn to write short satirical articles in the style of The Onion, McSweeney's, and The Beaverton. Whether you want to skewer the government, call out ableism, rant about people who don’t pick up after their dogs, take on Christmas music, or the anti-aging industry, this workshop will give you the tools to do it well. You’ll leave with a strong understanding of what makes satire work, how to generate compelling story ideas, and how to turn them into pieces that make people laugh—while also nudging them to see the world a little differently. This 6-session spin class series will focus on teaching cycling fundamentals and building confidence and endurance. Please wear appropriate cycling attire (tights or shorts).
