    BALANCE is pleased to announce that Sharing Space Support Group is moving to a year-round format with groups running every Tuesday, starting Tuesday January 12th, from 1:30pm-3:30pm.

    The BALANCE Sharing Space Support Group is year-round professionally facilitated group counselling for adults who are blind or living with sight loss. From navigating during the pandemic to navigating ableism at any time, the groups address life’s challenges specifically for blind people, whether big or small, in a safe and supportive group experience (currently offered virtually through Zoom). Our Sharing Space Support Groups are facilitated by people with lived experience and a Social Work background.

    This is open only to BALANCE clients. You need a service agreement in place in order to participate. If you don't have one, please call our office at 416-236-1796 extension 0 or email info@balancefba.org to get more information.

    BALANCE for Blind Adults is offering a special yoga course with a focus on back care and postural alignment, with certified yoga instructor Fazia Ackbarali. Classes are being held via Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00pm and are approximately 45 minutes long. Spots are limited so register now!

Her classes are corrective and rehabilitative rather than performance focused, and they promote wellness, pain reduction, and correct posture. You’ll feel energized and uplifted.     Has it been a while since you’ve left your home? Are your O&M skills rusty? If you want to brush up on your skills or learn some new strategies, then this course is for you! Join O&M Specialists Bill and Anita in O&M Adventures for two virtual O&M sessions. The objective of these sessions is to review your travel skills while navigating routes virtually. We will start by exploring several destinations within Toronto and then take our imagination abroad to see how your navigation experience might be different in other places around the world.

    Dates: Wednesday May 5 and Wednesday May 12 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM

    How often do you rely on your voice to communicate your ideas, express who you are, connect with others?  The human voice is more significant and more miraculous than we know. In Good Vibrations you will begin to understand how the voice works, recognise your own vocal potential, relax and open your breathing, feel the joy of sound vibrations and even speak a little Shakespeare (you can do it!). This workshop is for all levels but will focus on the fundamentals of breath, resonance, speech and freeing your unique voice. And, we’ll have fun!  

    This weekly workshop will run Wednesdays from 1-2pm, starting May 19th  until June 16th. This class is currently full; please call BALANCE for information on additional dates.

    We’ve decided to increase the spirit of competition and offer a prize to the winning team for each Trivia Night that we are hosting! Perhaps you are a trivia buff, or perhaps you are new to this trivia game thing…either way you will have tons of fun, get to know your teammates, and also be playing for a small prize that will be mailed to each member of the winning team (staff and volunteers excluded).

    The following registration link will register you for the monthly trivia night series. You do not have to attend all of the nights if you pre-register, but you can attend them all if you wish. Trivia Nights are always held the third Thursday of the month, from 7:00pm-8:30pm.

    This session will include 30 – 45 minutes of exercise to uplift your mood and get you sweating, as well as tips on exercising safely in the home and a Q&A portion for all things fitness!  Set to upbeat music, this workout will start with a light warm up, followed by gentle dynamic stretching, upper and lower body strengthening exercises and finish off with gentle static stretching.
