Do you live in the City of Toronto, York or Peel Regions? The BALANCE Pre-employment Program is a great place to get started with learning how to be an effective job seeker and worker. You will explore new ways to think about your career path, with a focus on the specific challenges and opportunities for those with a visual disability. Our practical, hands-on approach includes topics such as:

  • your personal mindset, strengths and needs
  • technology skills specific to job search and work
  • today’s job market
  • what employers really expect
  • how to communicate the value you bring

This 7-week program caters exclusively to BALANCE clients.  Social Worker and BALANCE counsellor Melanie Marsden facilitates the workshop series. Melanie specializes in intersecting identities in counselling and is an experienced counsellor with lived experience of sight loss.  In this workshop, participants will learn fundamental mental health skills tailored to individuals with visual disabilities. Each 2-hour workshop builds on the next, covering topics such as understanding stress, mindfulness, reframing negative thoughts, assertiveness, and resilience.
